Land Acknowledgement
We would like to, from a place of cultural humility, recognize that the tools of colonialism are still at work in the world, and the ongoing oppression of Indigenous peoples throughout so-called Canada and around the world still continues. Though much more needs to be done, such as returning land to those who are indigenous to it and dismantling colonialist structures, we would like to acknowledge the lands we are residing on, which include:
- The traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples, specifically, the lands of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Nations, or Vancouver, BC;
- The Moh’kinsstis, and the traditional Treaty 7 territory and oral practices of the Blackfoot confederacy: Siksika, Kainai, Piikani, Stoney Nakoda Nations: Chiniki, Bearspaw, Goodstoney and Tsuut’ina Nation, or Calgary, Alberta;
- The unceded, unsurrendered, stolen, and continually occupied Territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin Nation, or Ottawa, Ontario.
Our commitment to decolonization extends to supporting Indigenous peoples everywhere who courageously defend their lands, cultures, and dignity.
